Astoria Photografpix and Hooked in Astoria
Astoria Photografpix the offspring of my visual love affair with Astoria, Oregon, and is my original (and copyrighted) digital photographic work.
The name "photografpix" is a combination of the words photography and pixels. I was a professional photographer, lab film developer, and darkroom printer for many years before I finally gave in to the lure of digital photography. Now I wonder what took me so long to move from film to digital.
There are images of Astoria, Cannon Beach, as far south as Newport, Oregon, as far north as Oysterville, Wash., on the northern tip of the Long Beach Peninsula, and east to Wahkiakum County in Washington and Columbia County in Oregon.
Astoria is a scenic and historic town, located at the northwestern tip of Oregon, right at the mouth of the Columbia River. Its constantly changing weather, river frontage, and Victorian ambience make it highly eye-appealing.
Fort Stevens State Park, near Warrenton, Oregon is where the Peter Iredale shipwreck is located. The skeleton of the ship (which ran aground in 1906) remains on the beach, and is always a fascinating subject to photograph. Strangely enough, there are anemone growing inside the wreck, which can be seen at low tide.
Across the looming Astoria Bridge over the Columbia River, and into Washington, there are also many photographic subjects, including two lighthouses: North Head, and Cape Disappointment. All around the areas mentioned above are windswept beaches, and of course, the sea.
Hooked in Astoria
So what does a hibernating photographer do during the long, wet, and gray Northwest winters (aside from bunding in a chair and watching trash TV, that is)? Create a crocheting business, Hooked in Astoria, and start crocheting, of course.
So now (as of
2012), I will also have hand-crocheted items as well as photography
available at my
booth at the Astoria Sunday Market. There are two types of hat: the Hold Me Cloche and the Tamoshanty;
and two types of fingerless gloves, Snuggle Mitts: closed stitch (for when it's really
nippy out) and open stitch (for when it's just a little chilly).
Check them out here:
